Touch of Healing, treating physical pain and emotional problems from newborns to old age.

At Touch Of Healing health is viewed in terms of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing. When a person presents with physical pain it may be a manifestation of any one or a number of issues.

Each of us are individual, having our own unique needs and so treatment techniques, deemed to be of most benefit are used according to on going consultation.

The body is made up of the skeleton and the muscles which drive it. Trauma, through sports injury, accidental falls/spasms or post operative recovery, creates somatic holding patterns which restrict movement of muscle, impose torsions upon bone, which over a long period of time begin to restrict natural and fluid motion. Emotions too impact upon musculature in an adverse manner, manifesting as pain which has no explanation.

Impaired lymphatic flow compromises the immune system. Unnatural swelling or lack of adequate elimination from the body through restrictions in the flow of lymph circulation impacts upon health. Conditions such as asthma, eczema, psoriasis and allergies occur through a lymph system in over drive. Post operative healing is slowed down when the body fails to utilise this secondary circulatory network correctly. Simple cuts and bruises can leave our defences vulnerable, air borne pathogens present us with a feeling of constantly being under the weather. Life can feel pretty miserable in such circumstances. Adolescents, suffer the curse of acne and the skin ages prematurely through poor lymphatic flow. Regular lymphatic drainage, helps with cellulite and eliminates water retention where the problem is not system, but even in such cases it may result in repairing the issue causing the retention.

The body is composed of many systems and component parts, for example, the organs or viscera have specific functions linked to various systems. The gall bladder is associated with the digestive system, the kidneys and bladder with the urinary system. Occasionally those same organs might relate to the hormonal network which is governed by glands in the brain. From the brain, along the spinal cord, around the skeleton and through the muscles, encasing the heart and the lungs, the nerves and vascular structures are membranes and connective tissue referred to as fascia….A single fascia interwieves throughout the body, becoming tough, thin, ligamentous and tendinous as appropriate to its function and yet it links everything. Suddenly the body is no longer made of different parts, it is the sum of one whole.

Though nature has provided us with aromatherapy oils, and given us the ancient art of reflexology and time has handed down methods of massage to relax and create ease, we are unfortunately faced with lives of stress and chaos. We endure challenges which our bodies fight and cope with until they can cope no longer and the aches and pains set in. We may suffer that pain in silence, getting on with our lives, perhaps piling on more stress, more work, money worries and the odd pill or two. As we buckle, our emotions fail to find avenues of release and our physical woes are compounded, as our spirit ebbs and our minds create on going toil and trouble for us. We become dis-at-ease with life and with our minds, our body and our soul.

Of course these are generalisations and not everyone buckles or copes identically to the same situation. However, for those for whom such a scenario is familiar, how can they hope or endeavour to create changes, which give them positive and lasting health and well being? where do they go to find fullfillment and quality in their lives? There are of course many options. Which one they take is a matter of choice.

Touch of Healing is simply, one, such choice, but what makes Touch Of Healing different is that if you are in pain, or are suffering chronic ill health, our aim is to find the root cause of dis-ease and treat it as quickly as the body permits, using any one or a number of skills, always working within the boundaries of what information the body provides. The emphasis is never on forcing a result from the body, but always encouraging the body towards a resolution or release. Clinical hands on techniques such as craniosacral Therapyvisceral manipulationMctimoney Corley spinal therapy and myofascial release facilitate structural releases controlled by the body’s own corrective abilities, modifying the impact of scar tissue and somatic trauma. Reiki and colour healing may accelerate healing processes and the mere touch of massage and reflexology with their obvious and known benefits, help and maintain whatever has been accomplished through more remedial bodywork sessions. The treatments can be specific to finding the root of an actual set of symptoms, but they can also be used to maintain and promote on going well being and good health. All too often we take the attitude that if something is not broken we should not fix it, but we forget that like all well oiled machines our bodies are prone to degenerative effects. Even if we eat healthily and exercise regularly, heightened emotions and fatigue, can for example, send a back muscle into spasm, at a moment we least expect.

Craniosacral therapy is beneficial to newborns who have undergone traumatic birth but its versatility is such that it can calm the nervous systems from newborns through any age group upto the elderly. It has been documented by Dr John Upledger, the medical osteopath who founded the Upledger institute, to help ease the condition of people on the Autism spectrum and it is useful in treating attention deficit disorders.

Visceral Manipulation originated with the work of Jean Pierre Barral, an osteopath who’s skill of listening to the body yielded information that can help any number of systemic conditions. The purpose of this treatment method is to return natural gliding rhythms, back to viscera/ organs of the body. The tensions created by untreated ligaments and other fascia around organs can have profound impact on physical health over time. These essential and natural motions are as necessary to the viscera, as air is to our very existence.

Manual lymphatic drainage massage can equilbriate an impaired lymph system, improving immune response, aiding conditions such as Raynauds disease, severe burns and scar tissue. It is useful in treating acne conditions of all kinds and it also promote collagen production within the skin to slow down aging. Its uses however, are more extensive than this.

Mctimoney Corley Spinal Therapy will be phased into the clinical by the end of 2012, its use is purely for alignment, encouraging bones back into position aiding the release of soft tissue so the processes for natural metabolism can continue unhindered. This technique is a modification of the original McTimoney chiropractic method.

Myofascial release has first hand impact on fascial restrictions of muscle and tendons. Releasing these structures, improves joint function, as well as promoting muscle health and all the benefit that that brings.

Because the body is composed of so many aspects, which come together as one, the use of different targeted techniques to establish a root cause of a problem has proven very beneficial to patients in the clinics practice.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy of known benefits, it is great during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, in aiding restful sleep in mums and calming the baby. The result is often an easier birth, and as many reflexologists will say, can also be used to induce labour. However, Touch Of Healing does hold with the idea, that this is a process that should not be rushed and both mother and baby have to be willing!

There are five different forms of massage offered at Touch Of Healing, theses are aromatherapy massage, hot stones massagedynamic Thai Yoga MassageSwedish massage and Indian head massage. Deep Tissue and sports techniques are incorporated into more remedial bodywork.

Touch Of Healing is currently in the process of setting up a number of on going Yoga classes within the Spalding and surrounding areas and there are also training days available for Indian Head Massage, No Hands Massage to professionals who wish to learn more advanced and remedial techniques. Baby Massage for new mums is excellent for the bonding process, and its great for calming the baby too. Reiki attunements are also available for all those people who wish to move into working with subtle energies.
