Birth by Caeserian Section
A birth process which happens naturally, where there is no stress present and the wonderful event is allowed to occur without intervention, in pace with the baby, any compression occurring through transit of the birth canal is allowed to self correct, immediately upon skin contact with the mother. The mother’s natural tendency to want to stroke baby and hold it to her, will create a natural unravelling effect upon the baby and allow any tensions occurring through birthing to be healed and put right. Miss shaped skull bones will, very quickly return to their natural position. It’s important to understand that any compression exerted upon baby, through natural birth is appropriate, with nature’s intention. Compression transit through the birth canal kick starts the action of the lungs, and makes the respiratory system ready to deal with the air on the outside.
To force through, from the safety of the mother’s womb into the world, is the very first task that any human being will perform. If this task is successfully executed and baby arrives, without intervention into a calm, safe loving environment, then baby receives the message that all is well, and they can begin their lives without fear or insecurity. These are messages which stay with them, provided they do not learn otherwise, during their developmental stages.
There are times, and rightly so that intervention is necessary. However, as in any medical procedure intervention has its potential for problems. The very first one of which is the accompanying stress and fear, felt by mother, picked up by baby, and then compounded in baby’s psyche. Add to that the abrupt change in the pressure surrounding the baby, at the rupture of the womb during a ‘C’ section, which is not according to nature or babies plan. Imagine the compounded fear and shock, which may be prevalent. One also has to understand that though developmentally a newborn is not able to communicate by voicing its needs, it is no less in need of understanding and thought, as any fully grown, communicative adult. It is simply a little person whose only means of expression is through its crying. When a baby cries we need to listen, and not assume it as something that it does. If things haven’t gone to baby’s plan and it is not ready, an untimely slap on the butt, or a wrenching upwards by its feet, pulled away immediately from its mother, into temperate surroundings it is simply not used to, will impact hugely upon the child. Through the fear and the shock, misalignment of the Vomer bone, of the roof of the mouth, is very common, creating problems with breast feeding. As breast feeding is the best feeding for a newborn, an inability to suck appropriately, is going to create issues with vomiting, colic, nervous tension, irregular respiration, and the list could easily go on. If the baby is able to recover, then added trauma, in later life will bring these latent issues back to the fore front.
The point isn’t to alarm anyone as to the potential drawbacks of ‘C’ sections, but more to make one aware of the possibilities, of what it can result in, and to comprehend the need for help in the relaxing of membranous and bony tension’s sustained through the process of birth.
Cranio Sacral Therapy, as with Ven touse and Forceps deliveries, applies gentle touch, which works towards correcting misalignments, aiding natural healing process within the body. The body can heal itself, but in the presence of extreme emotions like fear, or in the presence of shock, it is less able to do this efficiently. Date posted: 01/12/2009
