Introduction: What is Touch of Healing?
I am Shehnaz Dungarwalla and Touch Of Healing, Clinic of Complementary Medicine is based in West Pinchbeck, nr Spalding in Lincolnshire.
Many years ago I originally trained as a Beauty Therapist, and massage was always something I felt a natural affinity for. Over some 20 years my interest in it, encouraged me to learn further, more diverse massage techniques, and I came to understand that my ability to read and follow the body's lead was a natural intuitive skill.
Searching for more effective ways of using touch for health purposes drove me to explore energetic pathways of healing such as Reiki and Colour Healing and then, clinical and remedial methods, such as Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release and Vodder Manual Lymphatic drainage massage.
I trained and recently qualified as an Upledger Institute Cranio Sacral Therapist, and am currently studying how to incorporate Jean Pierre Barrals Visceral manipulation techniques into my work and so I continue to update my clinical capabilities.
Using Counselling skills has enabled me to approach my work with more understanding of the possible deeper causes of ill health. CranioSacral Therapy often takes my patients into somato emotional release where psychological and emotional issues arise. This compelled me to undertake a BSc in Psychology. This is ongoing, and I hope that it will continue to build and improve upon my understanding, making me more effective for my patients. I hope to complete this in 2012/2013.
In 2009 I qualified as a yoga teacher and am looking forwarding to the opportunity of working with students, and approaching health and wellbeing from the perspective of physical movement.
I have been very fortunate in my ‘journey’, to have, in my opinion, had, some of the best teachers of my profession to help me develop my abilities. People like Pauline Wills from the Oracle School of Colour, Meghan Mari and Rachel Fairweather of Jing institute of advanced Massage. I am particularly grateful to Jean Mourton, my Reiki Master who sparked my initial enthusiasm for all things complementary.
In March 2011, Shehnaz will be Trekking the Himalayas to base camp Everest for the British Heart Foundation. Base Camp sits at almost 6000 metres, twice the height of Ben Nevis.
2.6 million people suffer from some form of heart condition, the most common of which is coronary heart disease. The British Heart foundation is one of the biggest charities in the UK, and without the funds it raises it would not be able to help sufferers of heart conditions or their families through what can be an incredibily emotional and traumatic time.
Alongside the training required for this journey, Shehnaz also has to raise £4000 as part of her commitment to the trek. If you are interested in finding out how both Shehnaz's training for the event and her fund raising is going you can become a fan and track her progress on Facebook-"Shehnaz Treks Himalayas for the British Heart Foundation", where she attempts to post regular updates, also check out the blog posts on this site for information on this event.
If you are a resident of Spalding, then look out for Shehnaz at this summers village fetes, where she will be offering Indian Head Massage treatments, and raffling hot stone back massages. Your support would be very much appreciated and if you would like to donate anything to the fund, however big or small, it would be a huge step in the right direction. You will notice donation boxes at the foot of each page on this website. If you donate through just giving, please notice the charity actually makes more money, so if you can do it that way, it would be great.
Alternatively, you can send donations by cheque made payable to The British Heart Foundation, c/o Shehnaz Dungarwalla, The Willows, 109 Six House Bank, West Pinchbeck, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 3QG. This will then be added to Shehnaz's final total. If you are able to donate then thankyou. Your contribution is awesome!!!
